MMIR Rapid Response Fund

The Missing & Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR) crisis is an ongoing public health crisis that has plagued Indian Country for centuries. According to the US Department of Justice, four out of five Native American women experience violence within their lifetime. Native men are subjected to psychological abuse through intimate partner violence. Our two-spirit relatives are subjected to physical and sexual assaults simply because of who they are. Social media and online gaming create a doorway for predators to prey on our most vulnerable - our Native youth. Fossil fuel extraction projects can pose dangerous threats to rural and Tribal communities by creating isolated mancamps for out-of-state workers. Sex trafficking rings have been reported to be prevalent within these mancamps due to the lack of visibility and accountability. There are many interconnected issues that perpetuate the violence of Indigenous peoples.

The MMIR Rapid Response fund is to help with any search efforts, memorial planning, courtroom solidarity/support, community events to raise awareness, and continued support to the families and victims of this epidemic. This fund is meant to help with any immediate needs that doesn't involve lengthy processes or red tape. When families need help - they need help now.
